Echinocactus grusonii

  • 1、 Growth habits

In winter, Jinhua is in a dormant state. In April, Jinhua awakens and begins to grow. In May and June, the temperature reaches the suitable temperature for Jinhua's growth, which is 25-30 ℃. Jinhua enters the peak growth period. From July to August, the temperature exceeds 35 ℃, and Jinhua enters summer sleep. When the temperature drops to 30 ℃ in September, Jinhua awakens again and begins to grow. In mid to late November, the temperature decreases, and Jinhua gradually enters the dormant period.

    2、 Lighting management

Cactus is golden and auspicious for the sun. Except for indoor maintenance in winter, it must be placed in a sunny place all day in spring, summer, and autumn. If left indoors for a long time, it will affect its body color and long spines, cause abnormal spherical shape, and lose its ornamental value. Jin Hu should be placed in a sunny area on the windowsill when entering the room in winter. After a period of time, rotate the basin to ensure that the light is evenly distributed throughout the sphere. During the scorching summer sun, it is important to provide appropriate shade.

    3、 Watering management

Although Jinhua is drought resistant, it does not require water. Jinhu should be given sufficient water during its growth period in spring and autumn, and water should be controlled during its dormancy period in winter and summer. Watering should be done at the edge of the pot every 4 to 5 days or once a week during the initial growth stage. It is recommended to water at 9 or 10 o'clock in the morning or 4 or 5 o'clock in the afternoon. It is best to leave tap water for 2 days before pouring. The water demand for Jinhua increases from late April to June. Watering should be done once in the morning and once in the evening, and it should be thoroughly watered. Be careful not to let the soil get too wet during the rainy season in June, which can lead to root rot. 7. In August, Jinhua enters summer dormancy and needs to control watering. From late September to October, Jinhua enters its growth period again, and should be watered every 3 to 4 days. The growth of Jinhua tends to stagnate in November, and watering can be done once every 10 days. In December, Jinhua enters dormancy and does not need to be watered to enhance its cold resistance.

    4、 Fertilization management

During the growth period of Jinhua, thin fertilizer should be applied frequently in spring, once a week. 5. Once every 4 or 5 days in June, the concentration may be slightly higher. Do not fertilize during hot summer. 9. It can be applied once a week in October, and no fertilizer will be applied from November to the following spring. Fertilizer should be diluted with water after poultry, fish residue, or poultry manure has matured. It is recommended to apply it between 9-10 am or after 5 pm, and then water it every other day after fertilization.

    5、 Cultivate soil

It is required to be loose, with moderate fertility, neutral or slightly acidic acidity, and rich in organic matter. Bagged soil is available for sale in the market, and can also be prepared by oneself. Breathable clay pots are the best for pots, followed by ceramic pots and porcelain pots. The size of the basin depends on the size of the golden amber sphere, with a gap of 3-4 centimeters between the sphere and the basin wall. The sphere is large, and the gap can be appropriately larger.

The reproductive method of succulent golden amber

1、 Seed propagation method: The cactus golden amber seed propagation method can be harvested and sown immediately, and the germination rate of the seeds harvested in the same year is relatively high. The sowing time is usually from May to September in the summer when there is sufficient sunlight. After one to one and a half months of seed germination, the flower seedlings can grow to the size of rice grains or mung beans. At this time, they can be transplanted or grafted onto the rootstock to promote growth.

2、 Grafting method: This method involves grafting golden amber cactus seedlings that have been bred for more than 3 months onto vigorous and tender measuring plants to promote growth. When the scion grows to a weight that the rootstock can no longer support, cut it off, air dry the wound, and then perform cutting in a breeding pot. In an environment with loose and fertile soil, good ventilation and air permeability, ungrafted golden amber cactus seedlings grow quickly. After being potted, the seedlings or grafted balls should be placed in a semi shaded area for breeding, avoiding direct sunlight. After one to one and a half weeks, the balls will no longer shrink and can grow and survive.
